An Italian man who was fighting
alongside Russian forces in Ukraine has been killed in the
Donetsk area, the Italian foreign ministry said on Monday,
confirming media reports.
The man was named as Elia Putzolu, a 28-year-old from Sardinia.
Before the conflict, he had lived for some time in Tangrog, near
to the Russian city of Rostov.
He is the third Italian to have been killed in the Ukraine war.
On March 30 Edy Ongaro, a 45-year-old from Veneto, died fighting
with pro-Russian forces in the Donbass.
The other victim, 27-year-old Benjamin Giorgio Galli from the
province of Varese, died fighting for the other side in the
Kharkiv area a month ago.
