Premier Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday
that the EU must step up a gear with moves to help people cope
with soaring energy prices as she reported to the Lower House
before this week's European Council summit.
Specifically, she said the European Commission must improve its
proposal for a cap on the price of gas imports from Russia.
"The European Council is once again dealing with the impact of
energy prices," Meloni said.
"The aim is (to achieve) a path of energy security.
"Italy has been on the front line for months in calling for a
dynamic cap on prices.
"Up to now the response of the European Commission has been
unsatisfactory and impossible to implement".
