Belgian prosecutors investigating the
so-called Qatargate case have asked the European Parliament to
lift the parliamentary immunity of two MEPs, one Italian and one
Belgian, in the probe into alleged graft for Qatar and other
countries, two Belgian papers said Monday.
Le Soir and Knack said the two MEPs were Andrea Cozzolino and
Marc Tarabella.
They are both members of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists
and Democrats, which has been hit by the allegations of
receiving bribes to wield influence benefitting Qatar, Morocco
and possibly other countries.
Belgian prosecutors said they had started procedures to revoke
the immunity of two MEPs but were unable to name them.
