Women must mobilise together against
gender-based violence "without distinction on the basis of
political orientation, religion or nationality", the Union of
Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI) said on Friday.
Only in this way will there be a "truthful representation of the
violence suffered", added UCEI as Italy prepares to say 'no' to
violence against women in demonstrations and other events for
the International Day for the elimination of violence against
women on Saturday.
"Let us fight together so that the violence perpetrated against
women, including within the home against wives, daughters or
sisters, is overcome," added UCEI.
The Community also recalled all the women who during the October
7 Hamas attacks against Israel "suffered war crimes, who were
raped as women, as Israelis, as Jews".
Separately, the president of the Jewish Community of Rome,
Victor Fadlun, denounced the "complicit and deafening silence"
over the violence suffered by Jewish women in Israel at the
hands of Hamas.
"There is a whole world that in words takes sides and mobilises
in favour of civil rights, but is silent and turns its gaze away
from the rapes and tortures that have already been widely
documented against Jewish women who were attacked, massacred and
publicly exposed by Hamas terrorists," said Fadlun.
"On behalf of the entire Jewish Community of Rome, I add my
voice to those who, on the International day for the elimination
of violence against women, say a loud and strong No to any form
of prevarication, abuse, persecution or, worse, gender-based
violence and murder," he added.
