Seven tractors arrived in Sanremo on
Thursday morning in the context of nationwide protests by
farmers over European and national agricultural and
environmental policies and general hardship.
The tractors departed from Melegnano in the northern region of
Lombardy on Wednesday evening and travelled 240 km to reach
Bussana near the Liguria riviera town that is hosting the annual
televised Sanremo Song Festival.
Artistic director Amadeus has said he would be happy to host
farmers' reps at the week-long musical jamboree.
However on Wednesday state broadcaster Rai denied there had been
contacts with protesting farmers after one group said they were
sending 15 tractors to Sanremo and would likely appear at the
Ariston Theatre, the festival venue, on Thursday.
