Security officials are carrying out
operations at highway toll booths and in stations to control the
potential arrival of protesters from outside Rome as part of
increasingly stringent measures around the area of Piazzale
Ostiense in the Italian capital where a number of groups could
defy a ban issued by the central police department and stage a
pro-Palestinian demonstration, security sources said Thursday.
The alert level is high to prevent potentially violent groups
from infiltrating the event with security officials monitoring
the social media pages of anarchic and university groups, the
sources said.
In particular, security measures for Saturday will be put in
place Friday at a meeting chaired by new Rome police
commissioner Roberto Massucci.
