A show on Alexander the Greta and the
Orient closed Tuesday after drawing some 200,000 visitors to the
National Archaeological Museum (MANN) during its three month
run.
The exhibit coincided with the start of the executive phase of
the long-awaited restoration of perhaps the MANN's most iconic
piece, a fresco of the Battle of Issus between Alexander and
Darius taken from the House of the Faun in Pompeii.
"It has been a great success for a museum that wants to be a
place of cross fertilisation between cultures, identities and
stories," said director Paolo Giulierini.
"We are happy not only for the number of entries but for the
appreciation expressed by visitors and the excellent recognition
of critics, including international ones".
