Italian Ambassador to India Antonio Bartoli today visited in Goa the aircraft carrier Cavour and the frigate Alpino, parts of the Italian Carrier Strike Group, which reached Indian shores on 1 October. Bartoli welcomed Vice Admiral De Carolis and his crew to India.
"Thrilled to have the Cavour and Alpino in India on their first Indo-Pacific leg, two ships that are a showcase of our industrial excellence," he said.
"The visit is proof of Italy's commitment to deepening cooperation with partner countries, guaranteeing the security of international spaces and freedom of navigation, and strengthening our ability to operate in multilateral contexts. Defence is the priority sector of the bilateral cooperation agenda between Italy and India.
The presence of the two ships testifies to the importance Italy attaches to the Indo-Pacific region,' reads an Embassy post.
