The Ambassador of Italy to Ecuador, Giovani Davoli, travelled to the northern province of Carchi, on the border with Colombia, for the closing ceremony of the project financed by Fieds (Fondo Italo-Ecuadoriano per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile) for 'Improving the competitiveness of the dairy chain'.
The initiative, reads a note, supported the activities of more than 2,800 families who benefited by increasing sales of dairy products by more than 10% and improving the quality of their production through sanitary processes and safety standards.
Davoli was received by the Prefect (governor) of Carchi, Julio Robles, who expressed his gratitude to Italy for our country's commitment to the province and its socio-economic development. More than 500 people attended the ceremony, among them farmers and breeders waving Italian and Ecuadorian flags.
In his speech, the ambassador emphasised how the project has prioritised the inclusion of women farmers, who traditionally play a key role in the care of the herds and who have been trained in the responsible and safe management of production, giving priority to their welfare and that of their families. Davoli also highlighted Italy's commitment to the country's development, through the creation of economic opportunities that benefit young people and give them concrete possibilities to work and prosper in Ecuador. "We need to break the vicious circle that fuels both underdevelopment and organised crime, showing young people that there is another way that passes through honest and decent work," Davoli said.
