The World Power-to-X Summit 2024 officially opened today at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, bringing together politicians, world-renowned experts and key opinion leaders in the green hydrogen sector. Among those present were also Italian representatives such as Lorenzo Ortona, deputy coordinator of the structure for the implementation of the Mattei Plan for Africa at Palazzo Chigi, Massimo Riccardo, special envoy for the Mattei Plan of Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, as well as the Italian ambassador to Morocco Armando Barucco.
The event is organised by the Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN), in collaboration with the Green H2 Cluster, the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN). In her opening speech, Morocco's Energy Transition Minister Leila Benali emphasised the country's commitment to the development of green hydrogen as a key lever for the country's low-carbon strategy and energy transition efforts.
The summit has a tight two-day programme, with master classes, business-to-government (BtoG) and business-to-business (BtoB) meetings. Panels led by experts will take stock of Power-to-X technologies, the integration of hydrogen into the energy mix and funding opportunities for large-scale international projects. Among other things, Italy is launching a high-level management course to be held at the MVI Polytechnic in Ben Guerrir, on renewable energy and the energy transition, which is part of the Mattei Plan programme. And it aims to train 40 high-profile participants from across Africa, from government agencies, energy companies and research institutes, providing them with the key skills to address the challenges and exploit the opportunities offered by renewable energy in the continent's evolving electricity markets. The course, organised by Res4Africa as a project partner and supported by the Enel Foundation, the foundation set up by the Enel Group, will take place from 15 to 24 October, and has been implemented thanks to a partnership with the Mohamed VI Polytechnic University, at the instigation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and with the cooperation of the Italian Embassy in Morocco.
