The Italian Embassy in Chile and the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) have prepared a rich programme of events for the 24th Italian Language Week in the World - the main event for promoting the Italian language on a global scale. This was reported by the diplomatic office in Santiago in a note in which it pointed out that this year's edition is dedicated to the theme 'Italian and the book: the world between the lines', and celebrates books and publishing as privileged tools for spreading the Italian linguistic and cultural heritage.
Italian schools in Chile and the teaching staff will be the main protagonists. On Monday, 14 October, Italian translator Silvia Falorni will be at the Scuola Italiana de Concepción to speak to the students about the famous printer Aldo Manuzio, a man who revolutionised the role of books and publishing in modern society. On Tuesday, Professor Stefano Micheletti, a well-known member of the Italian cultural community of recent immigration to Chile, will be at the Italian school Giuseppe Verdi in Copiapó to talk about the creative process that guides an author in the writing of his short stories. On Wednesday, actor Carlo Mega will be at the De Gasperi school in La Serena to hold a workshop on 20th century Italian poetry designed to bring the new generations closer to the great Italian poets in an original and accessible way. The following days, the artist will perform at the Vittorio Montiglio school in Santiago and the Arturo dell'Oro school in Valparaíso, as well as offering a meeting and refresher seminar exclusively dedicated to Italian language teachers in Chile, entitled 'Reading aloud in the teaching of Italian', which will be held at the Italian Cultural Institute. Also at the IIC Santiago, books and Italian publishing will be at the centre of the event "Le voci di fuori", where Chilean writers Lola Lara and Andrés Montero will talk about their relationship with Italian publishing and review their favourite Italian books. An opportunity to reflect together with participants on the important role of books and the translation of original works in strengthening ties between different cultures. Finally, also at the IIC Santiago, there will be a reading of verses by the Italo-Swiss poet Prisca Agustoni, interpreted by Cristóbal Salvestrini with the accompaniment of the musician Nico Vásquez Rocco, in an event organised in collaboration with the Swiss Embassy in Chile.
The activities do not stop there. During the week, various contents will be posted on the social channels of the Embassy and the Institute of Culture, including short speeches by Chilean and international personalities from the institutional, diplomatic and business worlds who will tell the public about their favourite Italian book.
