The Ambassador of Italy to the United States, Mariangela Zappia, opened tonight the event 'Partnerships for Reconstruction: the Road to the Rome Ukraine Reconstruction Conference 2025', attended by the Ukrainian Minister of Finance, Serhii Marchenko. The initiative, hosted at the Italian Embassy in Washington, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Embassy, was dedicated to a discussion on the main international initiatives in support of Ukraine in view of the upcoming Conference on Ukraine Reconstruction 2025, which will be held in Rome on 10 and 11 July and will bring together international leaders, including from the private sector, to coordinate and facilitate the reconstruction of the country after the devastation of the brutal Russian aggression. In his opening remarks, Zappia stressed that "Italy is in the front line in support of Ukraine, bilaterally, as G7 Presidency and in every multilateral forum, in defence of the values of democracy, freedom and the rule of law" "Even with next year's Reconstruction Conference," he said, "we will continue to play a leading role. We will also focus on the preservation of cultural heritage and the reconstruction of historic centres and cities, key aspects of the reconstruction process." After introductory greetings from him and Ukrainian Ambassador Oksana Markarova, a panel discussion followed, led by Ukrainian Finance Minister, US Undersecretary of Commerce Marisa Lago, Farnesina Special Envoy for Ukraine Reconstruction Davide La Cecilia, Usaid Assistant Administrator Erin McKee, as well as World Bank Vice President Antonella Bassani and International Monetary Fund Europe Department Deputy Director Uma Ramakrishnan. Penny Pritzker, US Special Representative for Ukraine's Economic Recovery, also attended the event.
