The right coalition spearheaded by
Brothers of Italy (FdI) leader Giorgia Meloni has comfortable
majorities in both houses of parliament after Sunday's general
election, according to interior ministry data.
The right coalition, which won around 44% of the vote with FdI
bagging around 26%, will have 237 seats in the Lower House,
where 201 are needed for a majority, and 112 in the Senate,
where the majority threshold is 101.
The centre-left coalition, which is led by the Democratic Party
(PD) and got around 26% of the vote, will have 84 Lower House
MPs and 42 Senators.
The 5-Star Movement, which got around 15.5% of the vote, will
have 52 lawmakers in the House and 28 in the Senate.
The centrist 'Third Pole' made up of former industry minister
Carlo Calenda's Azione and ex-premier Matteo Renzi's Italia Viva
will have 21 House members and nine Senators after getting
around 7.7% of the vote.
