League leader, Deputy Premier and
Transport Minister Matteo Salvini said Thursday he was not that
interested in hearing what Ukrainian President Volodymyr
Zelensky has to say at the upcoming Sanremo Song Festival,
stressing that he would only be tuning in to listen to the
music.
Zelensky has been invited to address the fest in a video message
on its last night and is expected to thank Italy for its
unwavering support against the Russian invasion.
Salvini said "let's hope Sanremo remains the festival of Italian
song and (doesn't become) something else".
He said "they (the organizers) will have made their assessments,
what I hope is that the war ends as soon as possible and that
the stage of the City of the Flowers (Sanremo) remains reserved
for music.
"If I have time I'll watch the festival to listen to the songs
and not to listen to anything else".
He said that the fest coincides with the last week of
campaigning for regional elections in Lombardy, Lazio and
elsewhere and reiterated "if I have time to watch Rai Uno it
will be to listen to songs and not anything else".
