A Catania judge's ruling against the
government's detention and bail procedures in its new migrant
decree, freeing a Tunisian citizen, is evidence of democracy at
work and not judicial interference with the executive branch ,
the magistrates' union ANM said Saturday.
"We do not participate in political and government policy, we do
jurisdiction," the president of the ANM, Giuseppe Santalucia,
told ANSA.
"It is physiological that there may be measures by judges that
go against certain government projects and programmes.
"And this must not be experienced as interference, this is
democracy".
The Court of Catania upheld the migrant's appeal, judging the
recent decree of Premier Giorgia Meloni's government to be
illegitimate.
