Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said
on Monday he would be "very happy" to meet the president of the
Italian magistrates' union ANM Giuseppe Santalucia to clarify
his position after saying in an interview on Sunday that
judicial opposition represented the only major threat facing the
government of Premier Giorgia Meloni.
"If interested, I would be very happy to meet the president of
the Magistrates' Association Santalucia and his executive board
to clarify my words and motivations," Crosetto said on X,
formerly Twitter.
"That way they will understand that at the base there is only an
enormous respect for the institutions. All of them. The
judiciary first and foremost," he added.
On Monday opposition MPs called for Crosetto to report to the
Lower House as soon as possible on his remarks.
Roberto Giachetti of the centrist party Italia Viva said
"perhaps he should also come accompanied by the Justice
Minister" Carlo Nordio.
