The 5-Star Movement (M5S) said
Saturday it would field its own candidate for the June 8-9
regional elections in Piedmont after its erstwhile ally the
Democratic Party (PD) allegedly failed to consult it over the
PD's choice of Turin labour and security councillor Gianna
Pentenero as governor candidate.
The M5S said "the PD has changed method, so now we'll pick our
own candidate", fatally weakening either party's chances of
beating incumbent centre-right Governor Alberto Cirio.
The M5S said it would unveil its election platform in the coming
days.
The two parties have come together for recent elections in
Sardinia, which they narrowly won, and Abruzzo, which they lost.
