Italy's new 'Volocopter' air taxi
copter had its first test flight at Rome's Fiumicino Airport on
Thursday.
Airport handling company ADR Chairman Claudio De Vincenti said
"less than a year after the presentation at Fiumicino of the
first Volocopter prototype, today is a first concrete step,
entering the future, for urban air mobility".
He thanked the Atlantia motorway and airport infrastructure
company, the Volocopter company, civil aviation authority ENAC
and its infrastructure unit ENAV.
"Rome will be one of the first capital cities in which this new
means of transport, the electric helicopter, will start flying
in 2024, in view of the Jubilee and the Expo bid," De Vincenti
added.
The Volocopter will be able to take passengers from Fiumicino to
the centre of Rome in just 20 minutes.
