Tadej Pogacar said Friday he didn't want to risk getting sick when asked about doping suspicions being raised against him after his history-making season ahead of Saturday's season-ending classic the Tour of Lombardy.
"Cycling is a victim of its past, but it would be stupid to risk your health for 10 years of career", said the 26-year-old Slovenian and absolute dominator of the cyling year after becoming only the third cyclist after Eddie Merckx and Stephen Roche to win the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and world road race championship in the same year.
"There will always be jealousies and suspicions, I can't do anything about it - the world champion continued.
"Stories of domination exist everywhere, in business as in sport. It lasts a few years, until a new talent arrives. If you put your health at risk for 10 years of career, it's like throwing away your life: I don't want to risk getting sick".
