The life of Pope Francis makes it
to the silver screen in the shape of a documentary premiering
April 28 and two biopics in pre-production.
'Francis of Buenos Aires, the Egalitarian Revolution', by
Miguel Rodriguez Arias and Fulvio Iannucci screens April 28, 29
and 30.
Running from the pope's childhood to his life in Argentina
under the military dictatorship of 1976-1983, the documentary
was shot in Assisi, Buenos Aires, Rome, and Vatican City.
Slated for a December release, 'Call Me Francis' by Daniele
Luchetti is shooting in Argentina, Rome, and Germany this
summer.
"It won't be the biopic of a saint, but rather a work of
great feeling. There will be no Italian actors", commented
producer Pietro Valsecchi.
Famed film director and devout Catholic Liliana Cavani, of
'Night Porter' fame, is working on her own version to be titled
'Francis' List', based on a book about the future pope's actions
to save people from persecution by the Argentinian military
dictatorship.
The movie will begin shooting in Argentina in the fall,
with a top-secret name actor in the lead role.
