Italy on Saturday sent aid to Somalia
after intense fighting at Las Anood in the contested area of
Somaliland which caused a humanitarian emergency, the foreign
ministry in Rome said.
At the instructions of Deputy International Cooperation Minister
Edmondo Cirielli, an aid plane left Rome for Mogadishu carrying
some 18 tonnes of medicines, health kits and tents, it said.
The shipment was taken from Mogadishu to the airport at Garowe
from which it will continue to the areas around Las Anood, said
the Farnesina.
