(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 3 - Foreign Ministry Secretary General
Ettore Sequi told a news conference on Monday that Italy
condemns the "sham" referenda Russia held in areas of Ukraine
occupied by its forces and will not recognize Moscow's
declaration that it had annexed them after Russian Ambassador
Sergey Razov was summoned to a meeting.
Sequi said the referenda were held "illegally and in violation
of every international law.
"Italy does not recognize them nor the outcome," he added.
Sequi said Italy would remain in line with its allies and
contemplate imposing more sanctions on Russia as a "peaceful
instrument of pressure to put an end to the war of aggression".
