(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 22 - Pregnant women's job applications for
provincial offices in and around Treviso in Veneto are to be
favoured over those from other women, President Stefano Marcon
of the rightwing League party said Thursday.
"It's a measure aimed at fighting the drop in the birth rate,"
he said.
Marcon said that in evaluations of women's performances in job
competitions, pregnant ones would be given preference.
The provincial government said it hoped the
positive-discrimination measure was legal. (ANSA).
