Left-leaning chat show host and entertainer Fabio Fazio is leaving Rai state broadcaster for a four-year deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, a move that had been expected since the recent resignation of Rai CEO Carlo Fuortes who cited pressure from Italy's rightwing government.
Warner Bros. Discovery said that the presenter will star on channel Nove, where he will make his debut next autumn.
"In the coming weeks," it said, "the projects he will be involved in and the role he will play, thanks to his talent and experience, in the development in Italy of the Warner Bros.
Discovery group, one of the world's leading media operators, will be made clear." Comedian Luciana Littizzetto, "linked to Fazio by a historic association, will be part of the project", it said.
Littizzetto is known for her satirical monologues often skewering conservative targets.

The centre-left opposition Democratic Party (PD) said that the rightwing government was "harming the country" by depriving the public sector broadcaster of a show that had registered "landmark TV" like special shows with Holocaust survivor and life Senator Liliana Segre.

The PD claimed it was part of a purge of critics by the government.
Deputy Premier, Transport Minister and rightwing League party leader Matteo Salvini ironically and gleefully tweeted "Belli ciao!" with the emoticon of hands waving farewell to Fazio and Littizzetto.
