Sos Humanity is the German NGO that
is the recipient of funds that the Berlin Foreign Ministry has
allocated to finance a project on migrant rescue operations in
the Mediterranean, a spokesman for the NGO contacted by phone by
ANSA said on Friday, after Rome voiced "astonishment" that
Germany would fund work with migrants on Italian territory and
not just at sea.
"On 18 September, the Federal Foreign Ministry allocated the
funds for the rescue at sea foreseen by the Budget Commission
and approved a request to financially support SOS Humanity," the
spokesman, Lukas Kaldenhoff, pointed out.
Rome had demanded clarification on the German funding move
saying financing migrant work in Italy would be a grave anomaly.
