A 'victory' in the EU for protesting
farmers after Brussels pulled a planned pesticide cut is also
down to Italy, Premier Giorgia Meloni said Tuesday.
"The European Commission's announcement of the withdrawal of the
legislative proposal on pesticides is also an Italian victory,"
said the premier after the announcement of the withdrawal of the
new pesticides regulation by EU Commission President Ursula von
der Leyen, which was to have been a part of moves to cut
emissions by 90% by 2040, aimed at ensuring climate neutrality
becomes a reality by mid-century.
"Since it took office, in fact, the Italian government has been
working in Europe, with great concreteness and common sense, to
chart a different path from the one taken so far and combine
agricultural production, respect for labour, and environmental
sustainability," said the premier.
"We will continue in this direction".
