Train traffic has been severely slowed
down in the Rome railway junction after circulation was
suspended early on Wednesday due to a fault in the power supply
line at the stations of Roma Termini and Roma Tiburtina.
The cause of the fault is currently being ascertained by
technicians who are working to solve the problem, railway
sources said.
Repercussions are being felt along the backbone between Milan
and Naples and the routes from Turin, with rescheduling of
services, delays of up to 240 minutes, and some cancellations,
the sources said.
Overall, more than 100 trains were cancelled, totally or
partially, due to the power line disconnection at Rome's Termini
and Tiburtina stations while over 40 high-speed and Intercity
trains reported delays of over an hour as of midday Wednesday.
The CEO of Italian rail operator Rete Ferroviaria Italiana
(RFI), Gianpiero Strisciuglio, said the "rare fault affected the
electrical cabin" powering the Rome railway junction and that
its causes were still being determined but a cyberattack had
been ruled out.
