Premier Giorgia Meloni has spoken on
the phone with US President Joe Biden to send her and the
government's solidarity for the devastation caused by wildfires
in California, the prime minister's office at Palazzo Chigi has
said in a note.
During the conversation, Biden thanked the premier for Italy's
role as a leader in the G7, NATO and the European Union.
The US president expressed appreciation for the support provided
by Italy to the Ukrainian population and the two leaders
highlighted the importance and the strength of relations between
their two countries.
"The President of Council, Giorgia Meloni, had a phone
conversation with the President of the United States, Joe Biden,
to first of all express her and the Italian Government's
feelings of solidarity for the terrible devastation caused by
wildfires in California", said the note.
Meloni also delivered, during her conversation with Biden, "deep
thanks and appreciation for the extraordinary cooperation
entertained in the framework of exceptional bilateral relations
and on all international policy themes, as also confirmed within
the Italian Presidency of the G7", reported the note.
In this respect, the note explained, "President Biden wanted to
recall, in particular, the importance of the result reached with
the agreement on the disbursement of loans worth 50 billion
dollars in favour of Ukraine, backed by profits from frozen
Russian sovereign assets".
