Istat said Wednesday that a record
23.754 million people were in employment in Italy in December.
In provisional data, the national statistics agency said this
was a rise of 456,000 people in work with respect to December
2022.
It said the number of people in permanent jobs went up by
418,000 in that period and the number of self-employed increased
by 42,000, while temporary employees dropped by 5,000.
Istat said the employment rate had climbed by 1.2 percentage
points to 61.9%.
It said Italy's unemployment rate fell to 7.2% in December, down
0.2 of a point compared to November and the lowest level since
December 2008, when it was 6.9%.
It said the unemployment rate for under-25s who are active on
the labour market was 0.4 of a point down at 20.1%, the lowest
level since it was 19.4% in July 2007.
