Shabbar Abbas, a Pakistani man who is
accused of murdering his 18-year-old daughter Saman in Novellara
near Reggio Emilia in 2021 with other family members after she
refused an arranged marriage, is in Italy after being extradited
from Pakistan on Thursday.
An Air Force flight bringing Abbas to Italy from Islamabad
landed at Rome's Ciampino overnight.
He was taken to a jail in the northern region of Emilia Romagna.
The Pakistani interior minister on Tuesday granted the
extradition of Abbas after an Islamabad district court judge
upheld request for his extradition to Italy in July.
The Italian authorities had requested that Abbas be extradited
on charges of killing Saman on the night between April 30 and
May 1, 2021, near the northern town of Novellara together with
four relatives including his wife, Nazia Shaheen, the only
suspect who is still at large.
Premier Giorgia Meloni said the extradition was a "step forward
so that justice can run its course".
Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stressed that
"Pakistan's decision is also the fruit of great diplomatic
work".
