Premier Giorgia Meloni's cabinet on
Thursday will examine a bill stiffening the punishments for
cybercrime, sources said on Wednesday.
For example, the penalties for public officials who illegally
access computer systems are to be increased from one to five
years in prison to two to 10 years, according to a draft of the
bill.
People who possess or supply programs that damage computer
systems will face up to two years in jail and a fine of 10,329
euros.
The bill also makes it obligatory for central government
departments, regional governments, municipalities, local health
authorities and local public transport companies to raise the
alert if they find out about incidents affecting their systems
within 24 hours.
In the case of delays, the National Cybersecurity Agency will be
able to send in inspectors and, if the non-compliance is
repeated, hand out a fine of between 25,000 and 125,000 euros.
