Torrential rain is set to hit Italy
from Tuesday bringing more rain in the next 10 days than has
fallen in the rest of the year so far and causing widespread
flooding, forecasters said Monday.
The rain will spread from the north to the south of Italy, they
said.
Marche was drenched by a fresh downpour Sunday amid continued
minor earthquakes off the coast of the mid-Adriatic region.
A bigger, 5.6 magnitude tremor was registered overnight off
Crete.
A yellow weather alert has been issued Monday for five southern
regions: Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Sardinia and Sicily.
Italy is currently suffering its worst drought in 70 years with
the Po and other major rivers over 75% below their normal levels
for this time of the year.
